  1. I tried to submit my sites at DMOZ and LII long time ago. I don’t know what happened since then. Feels like its really hard to be accepted on those particular directories. But once your site is accepted and listed, the authority of those listings will be seen by big G and other serps as well, thus, making your site more SE friendly.

  8. @christopher with Yahoo free or paid is determined by yahoo depending on the category. If its a commercial category they will require payment but if its in a blogging or personal category it should be free. -will

  9. @Christopher,

After you submit your site to DMOZ, it might take years to be accepted and sometimes, not to be accepted on their listings.

For Yahoo, I think there is no free submission for their directory, only the paid one.

  14. Good list here.

I have not had much luck with getting the majority of my sites into DMOZ.

Initially I submitted a site to Yahoo and I notices an immediate jump in SERPS, however at the end of the year I did not renew and I did not notice any drop in traffic so not going to bother with it again.

  15. @Mary I agree with you on the high PR site in your niche. For instance for loan site I like to use financial blogs which are high PR and rank well for loan keywords. -will

  16. DMOZ takes aaaaggggggeeees to get listed. But it’s worth the wait.

To new blog owners. Good luck with this site. It has lots of potential.

  18. @solreka thanks for the encouragement and insight on the RSS feed. @Dennis I disagree SEO’s turned bloggers make sensational statements to drive traffic, and wannabes parrot that all over the internet. Me and Don are SEO’s for a living bloggers on the side we don’t make statements that we haven’t proved out. We work for large corporations that primarily care about two things traffic and how that traffics converting. When your not getting traffic you tweak seo items and analyse then tweak some more based on mathematically informed decisions. If your lacking conversions you tweak colors and images and structure, and copy and analyse till the conversions are right.

Dmoz may be less valuable than before but it still is a high PR, authority site, and I have seen directory links make a difference. -will

That was great words and insights. About the tweaking thing of your site when you are not getting the right conversions and traffic, that is where I am now. I come to a point that it pays to pay attention to what you have right now and tweak it for a bit to see if it helps in terms of your site performance around the web.

About the DMOZ link or submission, its only “Submit and Forget” for me.
