If you’re completely new to squidoo, check out my Squidoo in 3 Easy Steps article.
A squidoo lens is a great SEO and traffic building tool, but it’s probably more powerful than it looks at first glance. If you write an aritlce make a lens, link to your site, and then leave it, you are not using squidoo to it’s full potential. You are missing out on a powerful and authoritative one-way link from a high-ranking website. Yeah, I know, sounds a bit propaganda-ish, but there is a lot of truth in what I just said. Let’s take a look.
A squidoo lens should be considered a whole webpage of it’s own. Believe it or not, squidoo lenses get high rankings in Google. If you play your cards right, you can ramp up the authority of your squidoo lens in Google, and then pass that authority on to your site with a link. So how do you build up the authority of your lens?
(1) Well, how do you build authority to any site? In fact, what’s the point of having a squidoo lens in the first place? That’s right, links. So, just like any site (which is how you should treat your squidoo lens) that you’re trying to get to rank well in search engines and in general, you get links. It really doesn’t matter how, but link-building is a great way to build authority to your lens. You might try submitting to a few site directories, or linking from a blogger you created for that purpose.
(2) Another great way to build authority, as always, is with social media. And, as always, it comes with a double bonus: links AND traffic. Bookmarking is probably one of the best ways to get authority to your site in Google’s eyes. A few words that should help spark your memory… digg, del.icio.us, sphinn, reddit, stumbleupon, and all that other good stuff. Just bookmark your article (this is where having a good article comes in handy, because the better the content, the more likely it is that people will like it. The more likely that people will like it, the more likely they are to bookmark it, and then you get all the goodies… i.e. traffic and links).
So now you’re working to get your squidoo lens to rank number one in Google, and you’re trying to pass it as much authority as you can. Here are some more features of squidoo you can utilize if you want to drill down and really stretch squidoo to its full potential.
(3) Another good thing to do is add more relevant tags to your lens. Squidoo has you create 3 initial tags, but you can add more later, up to 40 in fact. These can be multiple word phrases, or individual keywords. Take advantage of this. When you create tags, it gets some internal linking going around the squidoo server, and Google loves links, including internal linking. Essentially, that means this for you:
lots of tags = happy Google
A good equation if you ask me. If you already have a lens, just go to your dashboard, go to the ‘My Lenses’ tab, and click the ‘Edit’ button. Once the page has loaded, you should see a sidebar pop up on the right, with your text modules, introduction modules, and RSS modules on the left. In the sidebar on the right there should be a ‘Tags’ option. Click the orange edit button directly to the left, and then add some relevant tags.
So, that does it for this post. If you poke around on squidoo for a while, you’re bound to turn up a lot of interesting info; it’s actually quite a nice little site, besides its uses for the internet marketer and blogger. Feel free to ask any questions you might have about the post, or topics raised by the post, I’d be happy to try to answer as best I can.
I guess the same applies for hub pages. I think Ill have to check my hubs and see where I can put links to my blog.

I don’t know if I’d call them “advanced” but certainly excellent tips overall.
Question – there are penalties for “keyword stuffing”. Are there any such penalties for Tags?
The second one is my shortage, thanks a lot.

Squidoo is great but i have nor started using it yet simply because of the issue of focus.
it is owned by Seth Godin i think.
I have used Squidoo before but I am not a big fan. I prefer hubpages it is more cut and dry to me and easier to use. But a lot of people swear by Squidoo!

I understand the importance of building link wheels with Squidoo and Hubpages etc. but, if you also have a blog that your trying to post to a few times per week, do you just take those same articles from your blog, spin them, then make your other pages?
I sometimes find it hard to do my blog, write and submit articles, never mind lenses yet.
Any help to make this easier on myself would be great.
I really need to get crackin with squidoo.
I have put it off for two years. I own property in the caribbean and i think that is going to be the best use of the “lens”

Great tips from this post. However, I think using Squidoo lenses in link wheels is the greatest way to get help from this tool.
I only recently started using Squidoo in my strategies, but I’ve seen better results with other content sites on a consistent basis.

I don’t see Squidoo showing up in the Serps for my main keywords, so I question whether having an authority page there would really help me.
I recently wrote an article for the Google “knol” pages, and that too seems to be a waste of time.
Personally, I think the Ezine articles seem to be the best way to go…they just seem to get better placement in the Serps for any given keywords.
Really great tips! Most people fail to realize that is not simply enough to create a squidoo lens or a hubpage article or twitter profile, it will work only if you will put some real work into it by creating unique useful content and promoting it
Article promotion through Squidoo is not as easy as I thought.
Nice article. Thanks for this. I loved reading this article. Also I liked your slider comment form. Nice thinking!

I definitely believe you have to build links to your lenses to give them more authority and help them rank better in search engines, hence bringing more traffic and earnings! I have been experimenting with blog commenting to build links to my articles, and so far, it has been as successful as promoting blog posts.

You are doing a great job, I like your blog
There are so many avenues for social media that it becomes overwhelming to know what to spend your time on. Do you prioritize how much you put into Squidoo vs other social media sites?
I tried one lens but, it never showed up in my backlinks. I thought Squidoo was no follow?
Maybe, by adding these other links your talking about helps overcome that.
This blog is very rich, content, will often come around.
Interesting tips. I am new to Squidoo and have only just started my first lens. I’ll definitely take these tips into consideration!
Great advanced Squidoo strategies, Squidoo is one of the most popular avenues for traffic generation today, you can use as source of link building campaigns for your site, if you know how to use this strategies very well.
Thanks for the insight into the positives for using Squidoo. We’ve just begun to use it in our marketing mix and will definitely consider these strategies as we develop more lenses.
I’ve done several methods in improving lens on squidoo before. And I must say, squidoo is one of the best web 2.0 around to get a quality backlink from.
Just to share a bit of what I learned so far in building a great lens are:
1. you should regularly update each of your lens to improve their rankings. it’s best to put a spot where you can easily edit or update that section. the more you update your lens the more it will rank higher.
2. take advantage of their forums, because it generates high quality internal links pointing both to your lens and your profile page
they have fast crawl rates that will surely enhance your lens’ search engine rankings.
Regards,
Jason
